Money, Money, Money...

First of all, I'd like to say thanks again to everyone replying/commenting. Makes me want to get back on here and continue this journey to a million dollars. Theresa - you posted a comment this morning that really got me thinking - isn't it funny how growing up we're taught about family, religion, love, passion for what you do, etc.  and yet when it really comes down to it, you could be the most well-educated, passionate, religious individual and still get stuck in a shitty job, doing the basic 9-5 "grunt work" and what do we really need at the end of the day?...

Money, Money, Money.

I should get Kevin O'Leary (see: Shark's Tank, Dragon's Den) to come sponsor one of these blog posts and just talk about how greedy we should all start getting because at the end of the day, the world revolves around money. I know a lot of people will disagree but in my humble opinion, it is what it is - money = success = happiness = life.

I had a great weekend, got to relax, worked a bit on Saturday to earn a couple more bucks, played some golf (on the house, don't worry - still saving). Put away about $120 over the weekend, so we're sitting around $125 already, 3 posts in.

So I'll turn it over to you guys for now and this time when I say I'll keep it short and sweet - I mean it :P. Agree/Disagree? Also, "monetise"ing my blog took some thinking but I decided to allow the ads to come through because at the end of the day, if I can earn some money doing this, it could perhaps help me reach my goal faster and ultimately be my one hit wonder - I just hope it doesn't deter anyone away from checking out the content. Also, moving forward, will be getting more into the news side of business/advertising/media so stay tuned..

Motivation...

It was a pleasant surprise to get even the slightest feedback from the first post. I will try my best to keep this blog updated as often as possible, but with the work load of a typical corporate job and friends/family/etc. in the picture, things get a little hectic at times.

One comment referred to motivation. What a great topic to discuss...so in the first post I posed questions as to what your optimal dollar amount would be to make you "happy" - but I didn't mention what your motivating factors are, what's driving you, what is helping you to reach your goals? These are the things that I think we often overlook and more over, I personally think they're in the goals we set themselves...ie. my parents being a part of my goal (helping them retire) - well, they act as a HUGE motivating factor in my life, they push/drive me - so there's my motivation. Plus the whole One Hit Wondr part. Wanting to make my mark is definitely driving me.

Notice how there's the little things in our day to day life that simply just eat our money away. For example, I'm sitting here right now writing this out with a starbucks coffee in my hand. Nothing special in my cup today, but remember that 5$ I kept aside with the last post? All of the sudden that 5$ becomes 3$ real quick. Not much, but to put it into perspective (I like to put things in perspective) - my savings just dropped 40%. Just a thought, I mean, I'm a coffee fiend, so it definitely adds up quickly. What are some of the things that you buy day-to-day?

I'm about to jump into a meeting so I'll keep today's post short and sweet. I hope this blog gains some more traction and I hope the comments continue. If you think I'm an idiot (like the first comment apparently thought) for thinking a million dollars would satisfy all of my goals and make me happy - then tell me! I will NOT delete posts unless they are blatantly rude/ignorant or insult another commenter. Or tell me what your thoughts are - one user said they would need closer to $5 million, keeping $2MM aside for just their retirement. Genius! Or is it insane, I mean, would you be able to even keep two million dollars put away somewhere where temptation doesn't reach it first?

Hmm..Temptation..maybe my next topic of discussion.

Quote for the day: Never Write an Advertisement Which You Wouldn't Want Your Own Family To Read. You wouldn't tell lies to your own wife. Don't tell them to mine. Do as you would be done by.

My very first time..

My name is One Hit Wondr and this is my blog on satisfaction. Why is my satisfaction blog called "MMDollarBlog"? Well it's pretty simple, the other day I woke up thinking to myself, "I really wish I had enough money in the bank that I could go out and buy whatever I want, take a day off work and just enjoy life." Sounds too good to be true, right? Of course it is.

Before I really get into what this blog is all about and how it ties into personal satisfaction, I'll talk about myself a bit. I'm 23 years old, from a very large city in the Great White North. Why the name One Hit Wondr? Well to be blunt, I want this blog to be my one hit wonder. I always wanted to be remembered for something and I started my career-path like any other student and got through both University and College. Studied business and advertising and graduated with honours, directly into an amazing career opportunity with a massive Media Publisher. Can't complain, but I'm still not satisfied. Still haven't had my one hit wonder.

I'll now get to the "meat and potatoes" of it all - I want a million dollars. And I want to share the journey with whoever feels like following along. To me, a million dollars is the optimal amount of money that I would need to reach personal satisfaction. How? Well with that cash I could do 3 things I've always dreamt of doing, buying myself a house, a luxury car and allowing my parents to retire. People say money can't buy happiness; I tend to disagree, a million dollars and accomplishing those three things would be my one hit wonder.

Throughout my blog, I will keep a track of my progress, update anyone who is following with my thoughts on business news, industry trends, social media topics, etc. - basically anything advertising or media related to keep the conversation flowing and hopefully can gain some interaction with everyone through the comment board.

So now I reach out to you:

What is your optimal number?
Is there even an amount of money out there to make you truly happy?
And most importantly..
What will be your one hit wonder?

We all have dreams, we just need to get a sense of direction, have a positive attitude and maybe strike a bit of luck.

We'll see where this takes us, for now I am beginning my one million dollar saving by dropping a single $5 bill into my safe. Let the games begin.
